Software Engineer II (NYC)

Onshore

  • New York, NY, US
  • Flexible
  • Full-time
  • $185K/yr - $185K/yr

About the role

Onshore builds AI-native tax software for the people who build America. Farmers, manufacturers, and founders do the R&D that moves this country forward — and most never get the credit they've earned. We're fixing that: our agents do the analysis that used to take CPAs weeks, our experts review it, and our customers get their money back. We started with R&D tax credits and are expanding into agricultural incentives, corporate tax returns, and other tax incentives.

We're hiring a Software Engineer II to own product end-to-end across our stack.

What you'll do

  • Own full-stack features from spec to production across our Vite + React frontend (shadcn, Tailwind) and TypeScript backend (Bun, Hono, SST v3 on AWS — Lambda, ECS/Fargate, SQS, Aurora Postgres with Drizzle).
  • Build in one of four areas: the core R&D credit platform, agriculture incentives, corporate tax and compliance (our 1120-S product), or agentic infrastructure.
  • Build AI-powered pipelines that ingest, extract, and verify client data at scale — agents, RAG (Pinecone), and durable execution workflows.
  • Work directly with founders, tax experts, and customers; mentor SWE Is as the team grows.

Our stack

  • TypeScript end-to-end — Bun + Hono services, Vite + React (shadcn, Tailwind) on the front.
  • SST v3 on AWS: Lambda, ECS/Fargate, SQS, Step Functions.
  • Aurora Postgres with Drizzle ORM, Pinecone for RAG, Clerk for auth.
  • Frontier LLMs powering extraction, analysis, and agent workflows.

You should have

  • 2+ years building production software, ideally full-stack.
  • Strong TypeScript and React. Comfort in a serverless AWS environment is a plus.
  • A bias toward shipping and an eye for craft.

Compensation

  • $185k base
  • Equity
  • Full benefits

About the company

Onshore is a technology company that is changing the tax consulting industry. We have developed artificial intelligence software that automates many of the tasks performed by tax consultants. This gets much more exciting when you consider that tax consultants earn more than $10 Billion in fees each year. That's a market worth transforming!

What is tax consulting? Good question.
Tax consultants are tax experts that analyze one or two numbers that go on a company's tax return. For example, the R&D tax credit. The rules for the R&D tax credit are very complex and most accountants do not have the expertise to compute the credit. So a company will hire a tax expert to compute the R&D tax credit for the company. That's tax consulting.
