About the role

About Systrends

Systrends is a leading provider of regulatory compliance software for energy professionals. We help utilities, pipelines, grid operators, and energy law firms manage the complex, deadline-driven, and unforgiving work of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reporting. Today, we support roughly 200 customers through more than 5,000 filings each year and hold the #1 or #2 market position in every product category we serve.

The energy regulatory market is at an inflection point. As FERC expands its structured data reporting requirements and energy demand surges, enterprises need more purpose-built software to navigate the compliance lifecycle—from accurate data preparation through timely reporting and complex audits. With an already strong foundation in reporting, Systrends has the reputation and customer trust to become the defining platform to manage energy regulatory compliance end-to-end.

We are embarking on a major replatforming of our core technology infrastructure, recently hired a talented and proven VP of Engineering to lead through the transformation, and are now seeking product-minded software engineers to build across the stack.

To learn more about us, explore our recent press releases: Investment from Bristlecone Companies, April Brady Joins as CEO, and Systrends Acquires HData Compliance.

The Opportunity

Systrends is building a new cloud-native compliance platform and hiring its first two in-house Full-Stack Software Engineers to help build it. You'll work directly with our VP of Engineering on a small team making the decisions that will define our technology for the next decade.

This is a ground-up rebuild informed by over a decade of experience in FERC compliance, a team of subject matter experts by your side, and a customer base eager to contribute. While we'll carry forward the workflows and domain knowledge that matter, we're rethinking how our products should be designed, built, and experienced.

Joining at a critical inflection point, you'll make consequential decisions across the stack, ship into real customer workflows from day one, and help establish the architecture, standards, and practices that shape engineering at Systrends for years to come.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and ship full-stack features across our new platform — APIs and backend services in C# and .NET Core, responsive frontends in TypeScript and Angular or React, and the data layer across Entity Framework Core, Postgres, Azure SQL, and MongoDB

  • Use AI coding agents as a core part of how you build — decomposing work into scoped tasks, maintaining repo-level agent context, and rigorously reviewing agent output for correctness, security, and architectural fit before it ships

  • Set the engineering bar for quality — architecture, testing, security, code review, and documentation — with the judgment to know how much rigor a given piece of work actually needs

  • Build and maintain the CI/CD, observability, and production infrastructure your own code runs on — and be the one who gets paged when it breaks

  • Work directly with product, QA, and subject-matter experts to turn regulatory and customer requirements into technical design decisions

  • Take on multiple work streams at once, estimate your own scope, and communicate how a technical change ripples into business processes and dependent systems

Who We’re Looking For

Must haves:

  • 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, shipping and supporting production applications

  • Strong experience with C# and .NET Core

  • Frontend experience with TypeScript and a modern framework (Angular or React)

  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs

  • Strong understanding of SQL databases and data modeling

  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Copilot) in a professional workflow, with sound judgment about when to rely on them and when not to

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to explain how technical decisions affect business processes, users, and dependent systems

Nice-to-haves:

  • Azure or AWS experience

  • Knowledge of microservices or modular architecture

  • Test-Driven Development (TDD) experience

  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization technologies

  • Familiarity with modern UI/UX best practices

  • Experience configuring agentic development tooling for a team, including repository instruction files, MCP integrations, custom commands, or specialized subagents

  • Experience integrating AI into CI/CD, automated code review, documentation, or test-generation workflows

  • Familiarity with building LLM-powered product features, including model API integrations, retrieval-augmented generation, and prompt or response evaluation

This role is fully remote. Compensation includes a competitive base salary and performance-based bonus.
